About MeComing from a family of educators, I grew up with an understanding and appreciation of the work teachers do. After high school I earned by BA in history at Cal State San Marcos. While in college, I met my wonderful wife. She gave birth to our first child last year! After college I pursued a music career that found us in New York for three and a half years. We moved back to San Diego in 2013, whereupon I decided to pursue a career in education.

I am so excited to begin my career teaching 5th grade at San Pasqual Union. I grew up in rural Escondido and it's great to be coming home and consider myself lucky to be teaching in such a wonderful community with a wealth of educational resources.
I have taken many steps to further my education and to prepare for my career as a teacher. After earning my bachelor’s degree from Cal State San Marcos, I worked for Poway Unified School District before and after school in their ESS program and as a guitar/ rock band instructor to children and adults. While living in New York I worked as a caregiver for a child with special needs and tutored him as a music instructor to help in increasing his mobility and foster special interest in the musical arts. This past academic year I earned my multiple subject credential from San Diego State and am excited to pursue my career in elementary education. During my time at SDSU I gained 32 weeks of student teaching experience and had the opportunities to develop instructional strategies of scaffolding and differentiation that reflect the growing diversity in our region’s population of learners. While placed in a Dual Immersion 1st-grade classroom, I was able to use my passion for music to meet California State Standards and add to the curriculum of their VAPA academy program. Additionally, I used chants and songs as ways to differentiate Social Studies content for English Language Learners. Most importantly, I developed a rapport with my students, their parents, and the staff at both of my placements. I felt at home at both my small/medium sized school and then my large 1,000+ charter school placement. I believe this speaks to my flexibility as a professional and as an educator. |
